Swiss Style
Layout
Swiss Style design is a style of graphic design characterized by its minimalism, sans serif typefaces, and grid layouts. This project calls for creating a two page magazine layout that incorporates Swiss Style and use of a grid structure as a guide. The layout requirements include the following: running head, headline, credits, kicker, body text, subheads, and at least two sans serif font. This Swiss Style magazine layout primarily uses typography in the layout and integrates negative space and color into the design. It demonstrate principles of typography in the layout through typeface choice, type size, line length, appropriate rags, word and interline spacing, and kerning.
To recreate the Swiss Style design in this project,
a grid system is used to create a clean, readable layout. The headlines stand out well from the body text and the different subsections are easy to distinguish from one another. Additionally, the orange/red color pays homage to the minimal yet intentional color palettes seen in classic Swiss Style designs.
